UNFPA programmes support zero unmet needs for family planning and support the national and local governments in strengthening family planning supply chain management to ensure family planning commodities are widely available. It also supports and promotes sustainable financing in family planning, bridging access to and availability of quality family planning services for women and girls.
Through its global supply chain management unit, over three-quarters of a million commodities were procured in 2022 that were free at the point of access, assisting to build a responsive and resilient supply chain. With control over decisions that impact their lives, women are able to access family planning advice with UNFPA support for professional training programmes and the availability of qualified family planning service providers.
Adolescent-friendly health centres are supported to widen access and opportunities for teenage girls and boys and increase their awareness of their sexual and reproductive health and rights. In partnership with schools, a comprehensive sexuality education programme, is also supported at the national level and in targeted provinces. The training of teachers to deliver age-appropriate sexuality education for pupils is supported, and model safe information corners in schools have been established where students are able to develop the skills and knowledge required to advocate for their sexual and reproductive health, well-being, and dignity.
