Medical Study Tour

In UNFPA Country Office
Youth Information Center in Bungmati
On March 19th a group of eighteen medicine, pharmacy, nursing and social development students from Japan visited UNFPA in Nepal. The tour was an initiative of the Health Co-operative Association of Japanese Consumers' Co-operative Union (HCA-JCCU).
The group had a chance to learn about UNFPA's work in Nepal and reproductive health status in the country, especially about health services provided to young people like sexual and reproductive health information and counseling. The students visited health posts, clinics, and youth-friendly service centers around Kathmandu Valley as well as other UN agencies and several NGOs working in the health sector.
The students were appreciative of the extent of peer sexual and reproductive health education in Nepal. After a visit to the Youth Information Center in Bungmati one of them commented:
"I was very impressed with the youth-friendly services which do not exist in Japan. I think Nepal is more open to reproductive health issues than Japan. That's why the role of the Youth Information Center should be underscored. I think Japan can learn from the approach to reproductive health services in Nepal since the number of HIV/AIDS cases in Japan is increasing."
This was the 3rd such visit organized by HCA-JCCU to UNFPA in Nepal.
